Adult Recognitions - Development
 

 

  Leadership Development Pin

Can apply anytime.  The Leadership Development Pin recognizes adult volunteers that demonstrate competence, commitment to the Girl Scout movement, continuous improvement, and participate in adult development opportunities that will increase their skills in working with girls.  The pin is worn below the personal identification pin.  Additional training is recognized with leaves which can be attached to the Leadership Development Pin.

 

Candidates applying for leaves need to document their hours and describe how the workshop/course has improved their work with girls.  The workshop course can be a Girl Scout adult development opportunity, a workshop offered in the community or a college course. 

Each green leaf equals 10 contact hours or one CEU of training.

Five green leaves are replaced by one silver leaf.

Each silver leaf equals 50 contact hours or 5 CEUs of training.

Five silver leaves are replaced by one gold leaf.

Each gold leaf equals 250 contact hours or 25 CEUs of training. 

Basic Criteria

  • The candidate is a registered Girl Scout.
  • The candidate has completed one successful year in the position of troop/group leader, co-leader, or assistant leader.
  • The candidate has completed Council 101 and Program Level.
  • The candidate is currently certified in First Aid/CPR.
  • The candidate has participated in at least two meetings or events beyond the troop/group.  These can be service unit meetings or events, the council's Annual Meeting, or council-wide events.

Girl Scouts Volunteer Development Award   Volunteer Development Pin

There are six stages to Girl Scouts of the USA’s Progressive Volunteer Award that honor volunteers who continue to serve Girl Scouting in different volunteer roles through the years.  In stage one, you earn the Volunteer Development Pin and in consecutive stages, you earn keys that attach to the pin. 

Criteria and Instructions:

  • Candidate is a registered Girl Scout and adheres to all policies and procedures of the Girl Scout organization
  • Candidate has completed appropriate orientation and training for the volunteer position in each category
  • Candidate is providing service in the Girl Scout organization at the local (one or more geographic areas)or national level
  • Subsequent awards may be received in any order
  • A nomination form is required
  • One written endorsement is required for all awards except for the first stage (Volunteer Achievement Award)

Stage 1:

The Girl Scout Volunteer Achievement Award

  • First successful volunteer service completion on a board committee
  • First successful volunteer service completion on a task group assignment
  • First experience of troop or group leadership
  • First service experience of service unit management
  • Successful service to GSUSA for one year

All to have completed required training and have been appointed and have agreed to return for another year.

  • Has become a coach or mentor for a new volunteer
  • Has provided ongoing support resulting in retention of a new volunteer
  • Protégé nominates mentor
